What does it take to really rank for 1000+ keywords, get thousands of website visitors each month, and have hundreds of organic leads consistently?
This is such a great question and one I get asked frequently. SEO, search engine optimization, is your ability for you to show up on Google when someone searches keywords related to your business, your industry, or your expertise.
Many people think that only big corporations can rank number 1 for keywords, but many of my clients, micro-businesses, and small businesses are ranking for very important topics and changing the game for their ability to be found.
- A great business model focused on providing products and services that solve a specific problem for a specific or specific group or people.
- A website platform that grows with you, and you keep up to date with technology and content that is specific and related to your expertise.
- A system to understand the depth of your business and your areas of expertise so we can clearly communicate your value.
- A comprehensive content plan, that includes pillar pages, blogs, video content, lead magnets, and topic clusters.
- Ongoing keyword research to ensure you will be found for words that are relevant to you, your audience’s problems, and the solutions they seek. *This must be connected to your goals around local or national rankings.*
- Frameworks that make writing and creating content simple, and authentic. (*AI content won’t do very well over here.)
- Consistent actions in a sustainable period of time for some people that’s 8 months for others that’s 4 years… you choose the pace and together we create!
- Someone taking care of and putting focus, time, and energy into keeping your site aligned with what’s happening in your business.
- Evolving with technology, incorporating systems and processes like web chats, lead magnets, and email nurturing sequences.
- Sharing information that isn’t cookie cutter. It’s about more than providing value, it’s about connecting with your audience in a deep authentic way. It’s about sharing your expertise and being willing to stand out with your thoughts that aren’t status quo.
- Owning your expertise by being willing to be open about your successes and “failures” and using stories to connect and educate, share, and transform people’s lives.
- Go deeper into the industry and own why your approach is different, why you are different, and what makes your business unique. Start implementing this formula Why > How > What into your content and watch your know, like, and trust expand.
- Have the correct tracking set up on your website to understand how your website is doing based on search engine criteria, and review your website’s data at a minimum on a monthly basis.
As you look at your SEO strategy it’s important to note that you have to get very specific about your goals, be consistent with content, gain quality backlinks, and think about the bigger picture related to your goals and focus. SEO as a strategy is part of the long game, it can take time, we recommend 6-8 months, and dedication to rank for thousands of keywords, and when it is consistently implemented, even a little at a time it can reap big rewards.
Traffic to your site is great, and lots of times people come to a website for a few reasons:
- To be educated, or to learn something that helps them in their life.
- To find a solution to a problem, and to review if your product, service, or offering, is what they need.
- To connect with something greater than themselves, be it a community, contribute to a cause, or be inspired or entertained.
Not all traffic will turn into sales, so you must build content that does more than sell, and you have to create content that does more than educate. It’s vital that you think through your clients and customer’s decision-making process and make this process as easy as possible for them to navigate your site, find the information or product they are looking for, and pay you for your products or services.
When it comes to being found online it’s also very important to make sure you’ve got your business listings set up.
This can include:
- Google Business Listing
- Yelp
- Social Media Channels (Even ones you don’t plan on using often)
- Industry Specific (Platforms like Psychology Today for Therapists)
The key with each of these listings is you set up each profile as fully as possible.
- Logo/Profile Picture
- Customize Your Name & Domain
- Short Description
- Address
- Phone Number
- Website URL
- Newsletter Sign-Up URL
By setting these listings up, it creates more accurate information that will show up in other online directories and in search engines, which means potential customers and clients too.
If your goal is to be found online, then having these strategies put in place, as part of your overall marketing strategy can be vital to your success and findability.
